Manufacturers are optimistic about their future, but workforce shortages are still a concern

ST. CLOUD — Enterprise Minnesota President and CEO Bob Kill presented the findings of his organization's Tenth Annual State of Manufacturing survey at St. Cloud Technical & Community College. 

The survey's findings? The future is bright for Minnesota manufacturers. 93 percent of survey respondents said they feel confident about the future of their companies.

This positive outlook isn't new — last year, 94 percent of manufacturers were confident about their company's future — but a major concern in the industry about workers is. The survey report said bigger firms are for the first time more concerned about attracting qualified workers.

While most manufacturers surveyed were optimistic about the coming year, the common concern among them was the looming workforce shortage. Nearly half of respondents said "attracting and retaining a qualified workforce" was one of the biggest challenges facing their company.
