ST. JOSEPH — Big things are brewing in St. Joseph.

Bad Habit Brewing has purchased the former St. Joseph City Hall at 25 College Ave. N and will begin renovations at its future home.

The brewery and taproom will move from East Minnesota Street just around the corner and down the block after renovations are completed. The new taproom is expected to open next spring.

"We wouldn't have done it if we wouldn't have been able to stay downtown," said Aaron Rieland, owner and founder of Bad Habit Brewing. "We needed a bigger place and I wanted to own something here, too."

Bad Habit, named Best Brewery and Best Bar in the Times' 2018 Best of Central Minnesota readers poll,  added three fermenters this summer just to keep up with demand.

The purchase of the old City Hall gives the brewery a chance to really expand and stay downtown where they first planted their roots. But the new space will also help establish Bad Habit as more than just a neighborhood taproom, but a destination brewery with a small-town vibe.
