Agriculture, including livestock and crops, is big business in Minnesota. In 2021, 67,400 farm operations totaling 26 million acres generated $16.7 billion — earning it fifth place in the United States for agricultural production. Exports valued at  $6.37 billion make the ag industry the number one exporter in Minnesota of all industries and accounts for nearly one-third of the state’s total merchandise exports.

Benton County's agriculture includes both crop and livestock production. Corn, soybeans, potatoes, and kidney beans are the primary crops grown in the county, but there are also many fruit and vegetable growers and small farms. The average farm size in Minnesota is 375 acres.
