City of St. Cloud considering new program to help small businesses in new year

ST. CLOUD — The City of St. Cloud is considering ways it can help businesses in 2021, which so far has begun with the continuation of new challenges introduced in 2020 due to COVID-19. 

New year, same pandemic.

There are a few strategies the city is either considering or preparing to implement this year, Mayor Dave Kleis said in an interview earlier this month. Some are focused on keeping costs down for businesses, while others could provide further financial assistance.

Kleis said the city is considering how to use its revolving loan fund program to help sustain existing businesses and retain jobs. The city has roughly $300,000 in funding that came from the state before the pandemic began, St. Cloud Economic Development Director Cathy Mehelich said.
