Foley, MN - Benton Economic Partnership, Inc., is pleased to announce that the 539 Building Renovation project has been honored with the prestigious Minnesota Real Estate Journal Award April 18, 2024, in the category of Redevelopment- Retail/Restaurant. Presented by the Minnesota Real Estate Journal Award, this esteemed accolade recognizes the exceptional efforts of 539 Building in revitalizing historic properties and contributing to the economic growth and vitality of our community.

The Real Estate Journal Award highlight outstanding achievements in real estate development, and the recognition of the 539 Building renovation underscores its significance as a landmark project in our community. Through meticulous redevelopment and preservation efforts, Kevin and Julie Johnson, have transformed the historic 539 Building into a modern venue while preserving its architectural heritage and cultural significance.

The 539 Building Renovation project exemplifies a successful collaboration between public and private sectors, showcasing innovative solutions for adaptive reuse and sustainable development. By breathing new life into this historic landmark, Kevin and Julie created a dynamic space that fosters creativity, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

Kevin and Julie Johnson, owners of the 539 Building, had a vision in 2018 to revitalize St. Cloud’s east end through the purchase and renovation of the former International Harvester building. This historic brick building dates back to 1928. The recent renovation of the 539 Building has single-handedly changed the trajectory of St. Cloud’s economically distressed east end, which now has planned housing, retail, and other projects. The renovation was to prepare for two unique businesses, Iron Street Distillery, LLC, and Harvester Square. These businesses have certainly added gritty character and charm to the east end of St. Cloud.

“We are honored to be recognized by the MREJ for the work we have done to restore this building” said Kevin Johnson, Owner of the 539 Building, and President of K Johnson Construction. The Benton Economic Partnership, Inc., extends its congratulations to K Johnson Construction for this well-deserved honor. The Minnesota Real Estate Journal Award reaffirms the importance of historic preservation and redevelopment in driving economic growth and enhancing the quality of life in our county.

“I am so excited for the 539 Building Renovation Project! Improvements to the East Side of St. Cloud has been on the forefront of Benton Economic Partnership since our inception. Kevin not only had the desire but also the vision for the transformation of that building. BEP would like to congratulate Kevin and Julie for their outstanding dedication to our community and to East Side St. Cloud. This award is well deserved”! – Sandra Saldana, President, Benton Economic Partnership, Inc.
