Current Housing Data for Benton County
Results from the study on Benton County’s housing infrastructure were revealed on May 24th at The Clearing in Sauk Rapids. The study—conducted by Maxfield Research and Consulting—showed that there is a need for more available dwellings in the county. Those most affected by this are renters, senior citizens, and single-family home seekers.
The Benton County unemployment rate has decreased in recent years while the number of individuals in the workforce has plateaued. There are not as many workers to fill the available jobs making it more difficult to hire staff for senior housing.
Our Benton Economic Partnership team is in the process of creating remedies to provide a better living situation for the affected individuals. Executive Director Amanda Othoudt mentioned potential steps to take that could benefit these home seekers, including housing density regulations and permitting the use of accessory dwelling units within the county. We are discussing with communities the possible courses of action to implement these solutions.
